18 Nuzyael 720
By high moon the first watch are preparing to turn in as they wake the members of the second watch. Soon Kugald and his companions are standing their watch.
All is quiet except for the occassional stirring of a warrior somewhere in the camp, the fires have all well and truely died down now and only the glowing embers show where they are located.
As the morning progresses the temperature continues to drop, each of you draw your cloaks closer around your shoulders as the wind shifts further to the north and dies down to a few gusts.
By early morning a slight fog has begun to build reducing your visibility slightly through the trees. Soon the first rays of sunlight can be seen silouhetting the mountains to the east. Taking this as their cue, the warband begins to wake the other warriors, the other sentries take to this task soon as well and within a few moments it seems as if the whole camp is awake and preparing for the new day.
With the morning meal finished and the sun still hidden behind the mountains the march continues.
Todays progress is so much slower now, no longer are the warriors marching two or three abreast, there is only room for a single warrior to pass. The warriors march continues up into the mountains. The march is harder now as the route takes them up into the mountains. The mood drops a little as the weather does little to aid the journey. Soon after the sun has crest the mountains the fog is soon burnt off. There are only brief stops to rest along the way.
It seems to just about eveyone that the warband is doing nothing but marching in circles as you weave your way along what at best might be called a goat track. The morning is spent pretty much in the shadows of the mountains reducing your levels of comfort considerably.
As the sun climbs higher into the sky the weather improves slightly as the day warms up slightly, the climb is steep at times and the weight of your packs and other equipment restrict your movements and make the climb difficult and the sweat you produce makes the wind seem that much colder adding to the discomfort. You spend about 1/2 a watch in sunlight today before it disappears behind the rocks you are trekking through hide it from your view.
The journey through the afternoon is much the same as the rest of the day. As you scramble your way along the mountain track. Hidden amongst the shadows of the mountains.
There is a scare along the journey as Jurri attempts to negiotate a narrow section of the trail with a steep drop off to the right, he momentarily looses his footing and nearly falls about 60' down a very steep rock face, but he is able to gather his footing quickly and traverses the obstacle safely.
The sweat you produce does not evaporate but accumulates in your clothes making everyone that little bit more miserable as the wind when it blows cools the moisture.
With little more than an hour or so of light left your journey is halted. Everyone collapses to the ground in exhaustion. Looking around you can tell that progress has been made today, you are not poitioned at the foot of the snow peaks of the mountain range. As you are now sitting at what appears to be a gap between the mountain range. The mountains extend off to the north east and the south west with a narrow gap in front of you.
With no firewood tonight there will be a cold meal for dinner. A less number of men are summoned to guard the warband tonight. You are still nestled along a goat track with little more room than to be able to sit down and rest your backs against the cold mountain rock.
Soon everyone has drawn out their blankets and are trying to get as comfortable as possible. As everyone settles in news arrives from further down the line that Shelaar Batheson (a journeyman woodcrafter known to all of you from Ygesdram) has fallen, presumably where Jurri stumbled and was lost.
It is not long before exhaustion has taken you and you try to sleep. Resting against the cold mountain, your sweat and the wind make this task uncomfortable and difficult, as you rest fitfully during the night.

Barak is in his native element here. He enjoyment of the trek through the mountains is evident to all (as is his dislike of the weight of all the equipment he carries).

"<sigh> You hate to see a man go like that. On the way to the battle of his life, and he doesn't even get the chance to go out in a blaze of glory. May the Lord of the Icy Wind -- in his divine wisdom -- see the courage that this young man carried in his heart and put it to use on the fields of Talagaad."

(OOC: I am a leaf on the wind...)
Jurri will forego music this evening, but will instead tell heroic tales of warriors who faced great adversity and emerged victorious (or who at least died and went to Talagaad - we're vikings after all).

While his clothes do not appear to be damp from sweat and even though Algared looks exhausted, he doesn't look as dehydrated as others. Unlike other his water skin remains full only having had a mouthful of two taken from it.
[OOC: Chalsea's sponge has the effect that it prevents water lose, my reading is that it prevents perspiration.]
As the column comes to a halt as the groups break out their rations, Algared chooses not to eat, despite being hungry and tired, spending a time in silent prayer as he fasts the evening meal, he busies himself appearing to adjust the way his gear is packed, desiring not to make a show that he either fasts of prays. Hoping that Sarajin or the Elkryies will look favourably upon his desire not to win the favour of men buy overtly public displays of piety. Having prayed Algared will find a section where he can sit with his back to rock face, if there is not enough room to lie down and will let sleep take him.
[OOC: Warning last time Algared fasted we had a battle.]
