Hello Neil,

Based on my reading of the dialogue, THIS is what I saw in my mind. Based on this diagram, when the riders see Borygg, his point of origin is different than where the sentries are, therefore, it should not lead them back to us.

Does this jive with what other people understood as the situation?

Essentially, yes.

Borygg left the trees a bit earlier so he would be further from the stand of trees than you have illustrated and the riders would be a little further north than illustrated.

But yes you have the jist of the situation.
