Re: 12 Peonu 720
Kugald looks around at the group and shakes his head.
"It's already dusk, we are well away from the Ibanvaalese camp. I doubt that any hunter stumbling around in the dark will happen upon Barak's trail before morning. We relax, we feast and we sleep. Tomorrow morning, when we are well rested and there is enough light, we will cover the trail."
"Now, Algared, why don't you slice off a few thin strips off that flank there. A thin slice of meat on a stick will cook faster and give us a taste of what is too come." Kugald grabs a few thin green branches and swiftly sharpens them to a point with his dagger and passes them out.
As soon as his piece is hot through, he pops it in his mouth, still sizzling. He smiles, "Now that's a real meal," he pauses and looks at Algared and Borygg, "No offence to your foraging abilities, they have kept us alive through many leagues, but I just prefer real meat!"

"No offense taken, Kugald. I too prefer hot meat to twigs and berries and mushrooms. This will be all the more appreciated because of the many days we have gone without."

Re: 12 Peonu 720
Time: Late 5th watch - End 6th watch
With the cooking pot simmering away over the fire, with the chunks of pork cut from the boar, the warriors sit back roasting thin slices of the beast as entrees for the main course, the smells of cooking waft throughout the camp. With the rain now stopped the spirits of the warband are increasing. Clothes are drying out with the heat of the fire and the fires warmth removes the nights chill from those gathered around.
Algared tops up the cookpot once or twice as the water boils off and after nearly a quarter watch has taken the opportunity to have tasted the broth a few times each time adding a little garnish to improve the taste.
The fire sizzles with the occassional dribble of pig fat as it drips from the roast into the fire (most is collected in the cookpot though)
With a "mmmm" Algared sits back and declares the broth ready. Taking Baraks bowl first he pours a liberal helping into it before handing the bowl back to Barak. He then fills each warriors bowl in turn before lastly filling his own.
The warriors are able to eat their fill.
It is not long after the evening meal is finished and the cleaning up done that the warband take their cue to rest. Algared instructs the others to keep the heat up to the roast lest it spoil during the night. All but Algared and Jurri retire to the shelter. Algared finds a secluded sight near the camp and opts to meditate for a quarter watch or so while Jurri stands his turn on watch.
The night is still even the dripping rain water has now stopped, only the softly swaying trees and the rythmic calling of a nearby cricket can be heard - the only other to be heard through the forest above the usual insect calls is the growling stomach of your companions as their stomachs digest their latest meal.
With Jurri's watch complete he wakes Barak for his turn on watch. His muscles still ache and his hands still smart from the efforts of this afternoon. Finding a place near the fire Barak watches over the campsite as he adds a few extra pieces of wood to the fire, soon the fire leaps to life once again.
