The unfolding antics of everyone, from heated tempers to rushing to and fro leave Zeuol stymied. Eventually he finds it within himself to state, "Please, I've no reckoning in the slightest of what's going on - you're either so close knit and can read each others minds or your all running about like chickens with your heads cut off. If it's the former, just give me a task to do and I'll set to it. If it's the latter, besides the general endeavour to make the 'Farvie' sea worth, let's decide on a plan of action."

Daas boy wrote:"The Daas wishes you well with your endeavours and on advice, you are to take what wealth you have and provision the vessel as you see fit"
"Well what did he mean by that?" says Barak "Does he mean we're so rich we can afford the stuff ourselves? Does he still want his one third share, or is he saying we should spend it on equipment? Is that censure or is he saying he is confident in us making the right decissions? Whose advice is he taking anyway?"

Barak pauses, then: "The market is not for five days, so I don't know where we're going to get what we need. With luck the shipwright will supply spares, since he won't be able to take them all to Myna anyway. But getting hold of food and survival equipment will be a lot more difficult."

Kugald answers, "It means Barak that when we took our list to the Daas, Madrin also took a list of all our booty for assessment and the Daas is saying we are to use those funds we have in order to equip the Farvie which he is taking as his 1/3 share. And hoepfully Algared has been able to aquire the stores we need."

Time: Till Mid 5th watch

The day seems to fly past as the warband go about the task of preparing this vessel for its journey. Algared has returned with enough supplies for the warband to put to sea for at least a tenday. There are numerous sacks containing dried peas, turnips, beans and other assorted vegetables, sacks of various dried fruits including apples, pears and a variety of berries are also brought aboard, followed by sacks of dried and salted meats including pork, ham, beef and fish. Several bushels of oats along with four hogsheads of ale. Several other smaller sacks were brought aboard containing a variety of condiments like salt.

There are enough spares and other assorted equipment to effect about 5 repair attempts before needing to be restocked.

The spares and stores have been stored under a waxed canvas tarpaulin that Algared has brought back.

The warband have worked long and hard during the day making the necessary repairs to make the 'Farvie' seaworthy, by the end of the day all the hard work has been done with some caulking being repaired in the hull, a few minor repairs to the steerage gear and some of the timber work being repaired. Minor repairs were also carried out on the rigging replacing some block and tackle, replacing some old ropes and a few minor repairs to the sail all being completed.

Sigrun's inspection of the hull revealed it to be in reasonable condition with little in the way of work required to keep the boat seaworthy. A few very minor repairs may need to be carried out in the future but nothing that needed immediate attention.

By days end although weary from the work each of you look at this vessel and know that you have not put your blood and sweat into her to make her ready to sail.

With your geat stowed aboard and Nolomar now beginning to set in the western sky the weather has remained too throughout the day, during the afternoon the wind picked up considerably but has since died down to nothing more than an occassional gust from the south. The sky is clear as Nolomar sits atop the western horizon. A slight fog has started to build near the river.

With the day's labour and what to Algared feels like a year haggling for every dram he was forced to spend Algared returns home gathers his equipment ready to leave and spends the evening with his family. He knows he hasn't always agreed and there have been times when relations have felt strained, but the campaign so far has taught Algared the value of both friends and family. Algared tells them that the Daas has a task for the small band of wanderers his friends seem to have become. In the evening Algared carry out repairs on his gear, if possible aquire a sea chest for his belongings.

Sigrun intends to sleep on the Farvie. She doesn't want all that effort going to waste, if someone decides to come snooping around. She's more comfortable on a rocking boat than on land anyway.

When Kugald (and more importantly, Sigrun and Bjarni) deems the boat ready and the day's work ended, Borygg will return to the Orbaasen clanhouse and start to pack up his gear. He'll see if Bjaari has a sea chest he can borrow/buy. If not, he'll simply pack his things into his rucksack. He will give his weapons and armour a close inspection and make sure everything is in as good a shape as possible.

Bjarni will say to Borygg that if he can, he should get a sheep fleece to wrap his weapons and armour in. The sea air will rot your gear otherwise. Perhaps that is why Bjarni owns no sword, axe or armour. He will however, oil his new spear and wrap it.

Borygg has spent much time at sea a-viking so I am assuming that he is familiar with how to keep arms and armour safe. Seeing as how he has no fleece in his possession, though, I can only assume he left it behind (along with a lot of other belongings) when he last had to leave town in a hurry and has not replaced it. And given that we're presumably leaving first thing in the morning, finding one at this late hour may not be possible. In any case, when he's hitting up his host, Bjaari, for a sea chest, he'll also ask about a sheep fleece.

With his words pretty much falling on deaf ears, Zeuol decides to pick up any stray tasks that need doing. The man works at assisting others where he can see the need, without so much of a complaint. Otherwise he stays clear trying to avoid being a bother.

At one point though he rests inside the boat and pulls out a satin pouch. "Might as well provide something of value. A portent of what holds for this boat to cast our fortune." Inside are runestones, the contents of which he spills out onto the hull haphazardly. Slowly Zeoul shuffles through them organizing the purple stones in different patterns until he settles on particular placement. He unconciously twists the tip of his beard back and forth as he 'reads' what it is he can from his runecrafting.

At the end of the day Barak returns to the meadhall. He tells Jabor and Gelda (again) that he'll be leaving in the morning to crew the Daas' boat. He spends the time remaining to him before sleep sorting out his gear, repairing it, cleaning it, and packing it in to his chest. Everything he owns goes in to the chest, except for what he habitually wears, and the spears and shield which won't fit.

Once the Farvie has been loaded and ready, Kugald heads home washes and dresses in his finery and then heads to the Thranhold. Once there he asks if it is possible to gain audience with the Daas.

Post  Kugald Daas Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:31 pm

Kugald dressed is his finery enters the thranhold and seeks an audience with the Daas. When asked the purpose he states that he wishes to report on the state of the "Farvie".

OOC Kugald will state the condition of the Farvie being ready to set sail although still having need of some further repairs to bring her to 100% once more. He will outline the costs, equipment and provisions and seek to ensure that the 1/3 share is paid. The warband having spent spent 1315d. If he can find the destination and the task the Daas has for them he will speak with the pilot and ensure all the crew are aboard and ready to sail when required.

GM wrote:
That the boat is ready to sail - good
As for your next tasking you are told to wait - you will be told where you are going and when you are going when all is good and ready.

Yes you can use your tribute to refurbish the 'Farvie'

Kugald will return home and spend the evening night with his family and in the morning return to Farvie. He will spend his time cleaning, repairing his equipment and packing sorting his sea chest.

The weaponcrafter loads his sea chest with all of his personal belongings and moves it down to the ship.

Then, he heads off to the Kjelland farm to check on his friend and cousin, Leidolf, and his horse Gauk. He speaks to his uncle, Vidar, and asks him if he knows of anyone who would be interested in buying his horse and tack. "I hate to let him go, but if I am to lead this small crew and ship, I might not be back for a good while. Gauk should have an owner who is going to be around." If his uncle can recommend someone, Kugald goes to see them to see if they are interest and if so, discuss a price.

Time: End 5th watch - Beginning 6th watch

The evening warms up slightly as each of the warband prepares themselves for their journey. Gear is cleaned, repaired and packed into sea chests and then carried down to the 'Farvie' where it is loaded aboard the boat.

Algared is the last to arrive and finally his gear is stowed aboard and tied down under some waxed canvas to keep it safe.

With darkness fast approaching Kugalds leaves the warband to visit his uncle Vidar and discuss what to do with his horse. Not sure of who might be interested in a horse he suggests talking with Hilsen Trens the thrans ostler - he might have a better idea if who would be in need of such an animal.

With the hour late Kugald decides against visiting Hilsen now - but will try to do so first thing in the morning.

Returning to the boat he finds the rest of the 'crew' aboard where they set to discussing the idea of hiring extra crew for the boat. Soon stomachs begin to rumble with hunger.......

We could go to the tavern even bring some fresh foods back. Though if we head to the Tavern we'll need to leave a watch here. And given Jurri's Agrikan friends I'd be happier staying together least they decided to cause trouble in the dark." Turning to Kugald Algared asks. "So what will it be Capt'n?"

Post  GM Sat Jul 17, 2010 5:51 pm

Time: Beginning 6th watch - End 6th watch

The warband leave the boat moored alongside the dock and head to the meadhall for your evening meal. Heading towards the hall the weather has improved, the evening is warm the air still with the night sky mostly hidden by the clouds, Yaels glow can be seen from behind the clouds.

The nose from the meadhall can be heard from some distance away, some singing can be heard above the general din of the place. None of you can remember when the hall has been this busy, even during 'thengs' the meadhall never has the patrons it does now. On entering the hall you are able to find yourselves some seating along the southern wall near the door.

It would seem Jabor has hired some taken on some extra staff to help during this busy time, you do not recognise the new workers and figure that they are probably from the Storzar fleet.

The Agrikans are seated across the hall from you but they appear to pay you no heed as you enter. Gelda is quick to spot Barak and makes her way over to his table. Gelda says something about a thankyou for the dress but she is hard to hear over the general noise of the hall. Quickly taking everyones orders she retires back to the kitchen area but returns quickly with two jugs of mead and eight tankards on a serving tray. Placing them down on your table she gives Barak a quick smile before flying off to attend another table.

You watch as Gelda flits from one table to another her movements lithe and nimble as she darts through the crowd.

Not long after she returns bearing a tray of food for the warband. There is a platter of cheese, some honey oatcakes, several loaves of rye bread and salted beef with pork knuckles. She waves away your attempt to pay saying "you can settle up later!" and with a smile she leaves to serve another table.

The meal is average and what you expect from Jabor's establishment but it does sate your hunger and you devour the meal quickly.

Several more rounds of mead are brought to your table by Gelda throughout the evening as you finish your meal. You also enter into a discussion with those sitting around you. The conversation falls around the goings on of the thran, a little bit of light story telling thrown in as well. Rumours fly about what the Daas and the Storzar plan to do next, some say they will stand together and defend Ygesdram, others say that the Daas plans to fall back to Myna and gain the aid of his cousin Balis. There is even one ludicrous story that the Daas and the Storzar are setting to sail to Vulenheim to attack the King for his lack of aid so far during this war.

Talk of the King calling a Kronaad has reached the hall also sparking some conversation about the Kings intentions. A few say that there is too much animosity between the King and the Storzar for the King to send aid. Most seem to think that the King will come to his senses and realise that if the King does not aid the Storzar then Menglana is lost and the King will do everything he can to see that that does not happen.

You also hear from the people sitting around you that the Agrikans are here to support the Storzar. They heard that the Agrikans believe that if they aid the Storzar, then he might be more receptive to their plans of building a temple within his holding.

As the mead and the conversation flow, it is not long before one of the crowd turns to Jurri and bids him play for the crowd....

Post  Barak Daas Sat Jul 17, 2010 6:02 pm

After they eat Barak turns to Kulgald "I thank you for the loan of your mail. Now we're back and I shan't be fighting in the Daas shieldwall, I would like you to have it back. I know you made it yourself, so it must be precious to you. Plus of course it fits you much better than me. I've cleaned it and have repaired it as best I can. It is in my room if you want it now, or I can take it round to your clanhouse in the morning if you prefer."

"I've also got the byti we took of the messenger in the woods. I don't know what we should do with it. The coin can go in to the ships chest" barak says fishing out fouteen pennies and passing them to Algarad "but as for the rest, I don't know if anyone wants it. If not I suggest giving it to a poor refugee who has nothing of their own. I was think that the two hand axes I've got can go in to the Farvie's in case the mast ever goes by the board and we need to cut it loose fast."

He pauses for a while "Does anyone know what we're susposed to do with the Daas' weapons? I still have nine arrows of his left, and two throwing spears. I also have that vambrace I picked up which I am not sure I need anymore... and a mail hood. The hood is useless on a hunt, or on a boat, and it weights a tun, but I can't really get rid of that till I can get a padded cap to replace it."

Later, Barak is not too companionable when drinking. He seems preoccupied with other thoughts and is definately drinking less than everyone else. He perks up when Jurri is asked to entertain. "Don't forget to sing them the tale of our heroic deeds, the legion of ghosts, the company of armoured enemy horse, sailing down the Liem in darkness, and all our fine deeds." Barak is aware that boasting is common place amongst his folk and he thinks the party has a lot to boast about, and a reputation to establish.

(ooc: Yep, kinda thought that might happen. Okay guys, don't say I didn't warn you.)

Jurri will, of course, play. He fully expects to attract the attention of the Companions of the Roving Doom. So, while he won't go out of his way to antagonize them, they've tried to kill him and he doesn't consider that exactly polite, either.

He's been trying to keep a low profile, but once he takes the stage, Jurri owns the room. If the Agrikans behave, he'll return the favor by keeping his performance neutral (as applies to them). His songs and tales will be aimed at lifting people's spirits, poking fun at the Ibanvaalers, and strengthening the ties between Storzaar and Daas. He'll certainly call attention to the deeds of his companions over the past few weeks, too. Everything will be portrayed in heroic fashion.

If the Agrikans misbehave, either towards him or the locals, he won't hesitate to turn on the satire. However, he's sensitive to the political situation, so he won't escalate things unless the Doomers fire the first shot. He wants to be sure that any blame for an ugly situation falls firmly on their shoulders.
