In all the hubbub and confusion, Bjarni makes sure that the Farvie is ready to go on theorders of the Captain and Pilot. He will keep a sturdy belaying pin (or somesuch) stuck in his belt in case he needs to repel boarders.
Other than that, he stays on board awaiting orders.

Cunate waves his hand at the offered piece of amber "Keep it!" he demands This is my boat" as he waves from stem to stern "use it to pay your costs to upkeep the boat"
As Cunate listens to Algared he adds "You would abandon your friends now, from the tales I have heard you have acquitted yourself ablely." The Daas shakes his head "No you will go about the task I have set for you and you will do them to the best of your ability - lest you let the rest of your friends down"
"Your father is a scoundrel and seeks nothing more than to line his own beltpouch, he prides more in it if he thinks he has done so by advantage. You have learnt a valuable lesson here, Algared, not all family and friends have your best interest or the best interest of our clan at heart. Learn from your mistakes young Algared. Look about you" as Cunate again waves his arm about this time towards the thran "there are many here who have lost friends and loved ones, you on the other hand still have yours" as he nods his head towards the rest of the warband.

Sigrun leans against the railing at the stern, crosses her arms, and observes. She tries to keep her face expressionless. She has nothing to say unless the Daas speaks to her.

Barak "spots" something very riveting happening in the middle of the river, and keeps his gaze fixed on that. He awaits orders to make sail, which as far as he is concerned can't happen too soon...

Moving to the bow Algared stands quietly brooding, once he looks towards his father's house and he shakes his head the word fool heard to escape his lips, defore a shadow seems to descend or emanate from him. In the gloomy light Algared looks fatigued but the gloom mirror his equally dark forbodding mood and seems to say one thing "stay away".

Upon hearing the Daas' words, Kugald realizes his own actions have probably worsened the situation. He takes Barak's advice and decides not to put on his armor. After telling the crew to make ready, he walks briskly up to the thranhold to intercept his mother and sister. Hopefully he catches them while they are still preparing.
"Hold. The Daas has just informed us we are to take a message to the King seeking aid. He is not quitting Ygesdram just yet. None the less, prepare the very minimum for a quick departure, but say NOTHING to anyone else. I will be back as soon as possible."
Kugald strides back down to the dock and boards the Favrie.
"Sigrun, the Daas has order us to sail to Pelyn on the next tide. Are we ready? Do we need to wait for the tide? We are heading downstream for a good ways before we enter the fjord. If not, then we can leave at your discretion."
He assembles the crew. "So, based on the sound advice of Barak and Zeuol, I think it is best we just relax and do our best to look casual and unconcerned. We are just going to deliver the mail."
Kugald takes up a position next to Sigrun... "Whenever you are ready..."
He does his best to put the safety of his mother, sister and brother...not to mention dozens of cousins...out of his mind.

[OoC: Barak was more: a) trying not to draw attention to himself, he knows what a thin line he is walking, and b) trying to bite his tongue, it probably would not be a good thing to argue with the Daas]
"Kugald, since Jurri is the Daas' direct representative should he not hold the message 'till it is delivered?"
Barak helps to get the boat under way, hauling on the halyard and sheets as necessary, under the direction of Sigrun and Bjarni.
When he has free time he starts to bend on the fishing hooks to one of the fishing lines: "We should have brought a basket of stale fish, to bait this with" he says.
[NB: Halyard = rope for lowering sail, sheet = rope for adjusting sail so it catches the wind)

Bjarni will tell everyone to try not to move around too much on deck. It is cramped enough as it is.

Kugald nods, "Good suggestion."
He turns to Jurri and hands him the Daas' message. "For your safekeeping until we reach Pelyn and the King's hall."
The newly minted 'captain' does his best to stay out of the professionals' way, while simultaneously trying not to look nervous and project an air of competence. He stands next to Sigrun and pays close attention to her and Bjarni. Although he has spent a fair amount of time in boats and is familiar with the river and even the fjord, it has always been under someone else's command. Although he has a very competent pilot and some skilled seamen in his crew, he still hopes that he won't be called upon to make any big decisions too soon.
At Bjarni's 'request', Kugald does his best to stay still.

As we sail off down river/fjiord Bjarni will ask the others if any of them have been to Pelyn before. He will recommend the Wayfarer meadhall and tells them that he has a sweetheart there.
He will also tell them that, based on his experiences there over winter, that people in Pelyn have no love for the Daas clan and see us as enemies of the King. (that is the first time that Bjarni has thought of himself as other than Daasen).

Time: Beginning 4th watch
Sigrun nods her head to Cunate Daas, with a quick look around the boat, she decides there is enough water under the keel to take advantage of the favourable winds currently gusting in from the south west, the clouds hang low in the sky and seem to be darkening "Looks like we are going to get wet" she says. Barak and Kugald cast a quick eye to the sky and nod their agreement.
Sigrun begins giving orders as Barak and Borygg begin to remove the mooring lines. Taking up their positions at the oars Barak, Borygg, Jurri and Zeuol begin to row towards the middle of the river, with enough room for steerage, Sigrun orders the oars shipped and the sails unfurled, Barak, Zeuol and Borygg set to unfurling the sail.
The sail unfurls quickly and is soon set to catch the wind under the watchful eye of Bjarni.
All the time Algared stands at the prow with a gloom hanging over him.
It is not long before the boat is sailing through the gathered Storzar fleet and heading west along the Liem River. The 'Farvie' cutting a smooth path through the water.

Re: 16 Peonu 720
The Daas' raised remarks come as no surprise to Zeuol, who remains off to the side. He takes note of the situation, but says nothing. With the recriminations passed out and the Daas' departure, Zeuol sets to storing his things in a place that isn't very damp and repackages his pack to ensure his journal and grimoire stay dry at all costs.
...
Algared's actions and outcome at the front of the boat, catch the Savoryan Sorcerer's eye, and the faintest of "Hrm" can be heard by anyone standing in close proximity. He let's the matter pass as Sigrun gives the signal to set sail. Upon which the light framed Ivinian set's to work on the boat as needed.

[OoC: Regardless of when the optimum time to leave is, the truth of the matter is that we left on the afternoon of the 16th ;-) It was politicly expedient to be seen by the Daas to have left on his mission. Plus Kugald probably don't want to be around after Cunate bumps in to his mother ;-) We've maybe two watches of sailing until we pull ashore. We'll make some head way on the trip. With a single simply rigged square sail we go when the wind is in the right direction and hope that we don't have to row too much :-)
Barak tries to stay out of the way in the bows making up the fishing line. When he catches Bjarni's eye he'll nod towards the other coil of line.]
To Kugald he says "Have you decided where we are going to pull in for the night? Or are we just going to sail to dusk and the stop?"

[OoC: The GM is the rules ;-) PS: What rule prevents the Farvie from sailing?]
"Kugald, I presume you will be appointing Bjarni as your mate. So this is probably a question for him. But you know me, I love sticking my nose in to things. We need to sort out the crew. You're captain, Sigrun is pilot and Bjarni is mate I presume. But what about the rest of us?"
[OoC: I am assuming a average seamanship of 50%, Sigrun's piloting of 100%, a VCF of 4 and six available crew (Sigrun and Jurri not being sailing crew)]
"Are we going to only sail during the day? With a relatively inexperienced crew hopping down the coast and not losing site of the shore is the safest thing to do. That is why the coastal fishermen do that. But it does limit how far we can sail in a day and how far away from land we can sail - no more than 16 hours at best, possibly less."
[OoC: This gives a watch rating of 75% and a hazard rating of 83%]
"Or we can adopt the watch system used by southern merchant ships. This means we can sail or day and all night, but we are a bit short on crew for that, and what is worse we're not all the most experienced seamen so this could be a bit risky for us. Risky but fast."
[OoC: This gives a watch rating of 38% and a hazard rating of 69%, assumes Sigrun is on duty 24/7. If she isn't then the hazard rating would be more like 40%-45%]
"If we are to use the watch system you need to divide the remaining men between the two watches."

ooc as Barak has pointed out. its expedient to get under way and If the farvie can't sail because of the winds, (I imagine we aren't affected by the tidal flows here and are affected more by snow melt from the mountains) then there is nought to stop the Farvie being rowed, and rowed till the band drop if neccesary to ensure the Farvie gets underway.

Time: Early 4th watch - Mid 5th watch
The crew struggle initially under oars but before long the oarsmen have found their rythm and so fall into a steady beat. The sounds of the boat cutting a slow passage through the water is only interrupted by the slapping of the oars on the water as the crew row. The work is tiring and with the warm weather the crew finds themselves down to shirt sleeves or less.
Once you have passed through the Stozar fleet there is little other marine traffic in the area.
The boat sails westward along the river, Sigrun at the helm, she holds the boat on a steady course along the river. Bjarni keeps a watchful eye on the crew as he paces like a lion on the prowl from bow to stern casting his eye over the boat.
With the daylight fast fading Sigrun spies a thran on the northern bank - part of Maarslund.
Sigrun checks her rutter and notes there are few other thrans near enough for them to make by nightfall so she changes course towards the thran.
There is no dock here and the boat is brought ashore on a pebbly beach. You soon recognise the thran of Nilony part of Maarslund. Several of the locals assist you to beach your boat where it is tied off at a stake near the shoreline.
It would seem that the going was slow only having covered 2 leagues the whole afternoon. With the boat secured ashore Sigrun makes a few notes in her rutter before she joins the rest of the warband ashore.

Barak grumbles about rowing when they should be sailing. "Since when is Algared captain anyway."
When they get to the thran Barak elects to stay with the boat if the others go off. "Don't forget to bring me back some grub." However, he knows there are plenty of fresh supplies on the boat if needed.

The muttering and griping among the crew seem to be affecting Kugald. He is not his normal, happy go lucky self. Instead, he barks out orders with a tone that does not invite any comment back. The more them men yap, the more Kugald starts to sound like a real salty old captain.
"Barak, stow that attitude. Crewing a ship is new. It will take a day or two to work out the bugs. It won't be made any easier if you gripe."
"Sigrun, thank you. Although we only made a couple of leagues, I think it was more important that we got out of Ygesdram."
"Bjarni, please see about securing the boat for the night. Borygg, Zeuol, you can assist."
"Algared and Jurri, you're with me. Algared, you can see what you can scrounge up for fresh food from the thran, while Jurri and I pay our respects to the Valhakar."
The three men head off up the bank towards the thranhold and the main hall.
