Time: Beginning 1st watch - Mid 2nd watch

The wind continues to blow and howl throughout the night, the wind continues to rattle those loose shutters but it is not the shutters that disturbs the warbands sleep during the night, one of the trees across the path from the meadhall collapses with a defeaning crack as timbers split. Quickly the warband are awoken and dressing quickly go outside. They see several other clans standing about in the strong wind and with the night sky illuminated by the half light of Yael you notice the fallen tree not 100' from you.

The timber has fallen across the path and across Jabor's fence bringing a small section to the ground. With Yael hanging low in the western sky, no one seems hurt and little to done till morning everyone returns to their clanhouses to get what rest they can. The night air is cool and brings a shiver to those standing outside.

Some time during the early morning rain begins to fall, as the warband awake in the usual fashion, the meadhall staff begins their 'days work' about the sleeping warriors. Shella brings the warband some water, small droplets of water are flecked through her hair, her clothes stained from water "It's raining" she says rather obviously.

The rain still falls - if falling is the word for it, the wind seems to be blowing the rain in horizontally, the sky above reveals little of the blue sky above and the clouds seem to be filled with rain. Sigrun and Barak both agree that there seems little chance of the days weather improving at all.

Post  Barak Daas Wed Jun 22, 2011 2:47 am

If possible Barak will continue with his intentions of yesterday, i.e. barter the swan and practice combat skills. If practice outside is impossible, is there enough space inside to practice basic bow skills or unarmed (no leathal) combat (such as wrestling)? If all else fails Barak will maintain his equipment. He show Borygg and Sigrun how he keeps his bow and arrows in top condition, and hopefully learn some tips from them.

He will also volunteer to assist Jabor with chopping up and removing the fallen tree.

Seeing plenty of volunteers tonhelp with mending the fence and chopping the tree, and really not wanting to be out in this weather at all, Meldun offers a few words of encouragement and the promise to wrestle with Barak after the mid day meal, then heads to the temple.

He will speak with Bjarri about the elemental and the ljarl, and see what he can learn from the wiser man. When appropriate, he will return to the mead hall with the intent to wrestle whomever he can, and may do some boxing. In the evening, he will take inventory of his possessions, identify what he needs for their march, and make plans for purchases.

Algared continues scrawling in his tome, occassionally cussing when some line of thought or research seems to reach an unsatisfactory conclusion.

It goes without saying that Bjarni will help with the tree.

With the warband up and about, they go about their morning routines, washing, braiding hair and beards while preparing themselves for the coming day finally finshing off by dressing in their everyday wear clothes.

The weather continues to be poor, the wind continues to blow a gale from the south west, with showers continuing to fall in a near horizontal sheet when the wind blows, the temperature remains cool but is fought off by the warmth of embers of the hearth fire. The sky outside remains dark and full of thick black and grey clouds.

From within the meadhall you watch the thran outside and it appears few are venturing out in this weather. The ground is covered in a sheen of water which has gathered into puddles where holes are in the paths and gardens. The docks look empty now, the fishing boats now harbour further to west and there has not been a trading vessel seen here for several days now.

The thran is quiet except for the weather outside.

The warband gather at a table near the hearth fire as Barak throws a few more timbers upon the coals, embers fly towards the roof and the new timbers begin to smoke before catching alight and adding their warmth the hall about them. Tankards of ale are poured from jugs brought out by Shella and Gelda. Drinking quietly the warband are soon served bowls of hot porridge with oatcakes for their morning meal. The porridge dribbled in honey and berries is warm and filling.

Jabor makes his appearance just after breaking your morning fast, peering out the meadhall door he mumbles that the tree outside will have to wait, he has no intentions of going out in this weather. His leans a wood axe against the wall near the door before retiring to the back room. Meanwhile Shella and Gelda go about cleaning the hall, wiping down already clean tables and sweeping rarely used floors. They seem to move about the hall as if more from routine than anything else.

With the morning meal taken Meldun excuses himself from the group telling everyone that he is off to the temple for the morning. Wrapping his cloak tightly about him and pulling the cowl of his cloak up over his head he braces himself at the door before stepping out into the worsening weather.

Algared has no sooner finished his morning meal than he has returned to his studies over in a remote corner of the hall, he fetches a lantern and places it upon the table near him to provide him more light to see by. Algared is soon back with his nose sunk into parchments, his quill working hard as it is repeatedly dunked into his bottle of ink.

Barak takes his catch from yesterday and like Meldun gathers his cloak about himself before heading out into the rain and wind. First he heads to Sordi Daas to see what he can get from his catch. Barak returns about a quarter watch later soaking wet before throwing off his cloak at the door and taking up a position near the fire to dry off.

Sigrun spends the morning flicking through her rutter, staying warm and dry by the fire. Wandering to the door Sigrun looks outside and says to no one in particular "It is going to storm soon! Looks like for the day too."

Bjarni and Borygg begin to wrestle about the hall but soon earn the ire of Algared as he yells for you to calm yourselves down so that he can continue his studies. While Bryn watches on with a smile on her face at these two 'mens' antics.

The days weather continues to deteriorate.

By mid morning the rain is coming down by the bucket load, the wind continues to howl and this mornings rain has turned into a full blown storm outside. The shutters on the meadhall windows do battle with the wind as they continue to rattle incessantly with each blast from the wind. The temperature remains cool but is greatly offset by the heat given off by the hearth fire.

Each of the warriors take their turn to fetch firewood from the wood bin just outside the meadhall.

There seems little to do and the warriors soon turn to mischief to keep themselves amused, each time they are either shouted down by Algared, Sigrun or Jabor.

Sigrun seems to be becoming more and more irritated by this rain and the inactivity that it brings with it, Sigrun moves from her rutter to pacing the floor of the meadhall back to her rutter....

Jabor is seen often as he moves about the hall, moving from the door to a window then returning to the back room of the hall. Meanwhile the two girls turn their hands to some of the more menial tasks about the hall as they repair clothes, aprons and perform other needlework repairs.

The morning turns to afternoon and still there is no sign of Meldun.

Time moves slowly as the storm outside continues to rage....

Afternoon turns to evening and evening turns to night. The storm has gone on unabated all day, tensions in the hall have grown. Finally Algared calls a break to his studies so that he might share his meal with the others, a pottage is served of pork and a mix of vegetables, lightly spiced served loaves of rye bread and some dried berries and nuts.

With the weather so poor it is decided to turn in early for the night. The hearth fire provides the warband with the familiar warmth while the wind outside continues to blow fiercely. With some tossing and turning it is not long before each of the warband have made themselves comfortable enough to sleep. Your rest if fitful and you each wake often during the night, it would seem that at some time during the night the storm has broken, however, the wind can still be heard blowing a gale outside.
