Vidar sets to the task of "sorting" friend from foe on the battlefield. At Algared's request, Vidar assists in searching for loot for the rest of the warband (taking note of any religious symbology upon fallen friend and for alike. Friends' gear is left with the corpse; enemies' gear is possibly kept, depending...).

Vidar's priorities are:

1) Help wounded to Algared/nearest physician.
2) Arrange for the collection of dead allies (and POSSIBLY dead foes -- if they didn't flee like cowards, AND they possess some sort of Sarajinian identification) for funeral. (Could Vidar use a captive for this?)
3) Protect the bodies of allies from looting.
4) Looting of enemies.

"Well met friends!"

"I hope you had a good vantage point Jurri, because this will be a battle worth remembering!"

Kugald stops and bandages his calf. He accepts assistance with bandaging his shoulder.

"I am going to walk back and pick up my pack. Anyone interested in joining me?"

Once everything is settled, Kugald walks back across the field, sword still in hand. He delivers the coup de grace to any foes he finds still alive. He keeps an eye out for a good spear, replacement shield, and any obvious jewelery or coin purses. A good 3/4 helm would be appreciated too. He moves with a purpose.

When he reaches the spot where he left his pack, he looks around for it. Hopefully it has not been destroyed by the advancing shield wall.

Jurri will congratulate each of the warband as they find their way back to the group. He'll assist as needed with the injured, but it appears the wounds are relatively minor.

If he was able to witness the fall of any enemy valhakars or other warriors of high rank, he will point them out to his companions.

To Kugald as they walk about the field: "Truly, Sarajin fought with you! The mothers of Ibanvaal will grieve this day."

Later, Jurri will find a relatively quiet spot and begin composing the account of the battle to perform for the Daas and his valhakars. News will have to be carried to Vulenheim, too, he thinks.

(OOC: Did the size of the enemy force match what we know from other accounts? Was this the whole army or merely a portion of it? Jurri will try to find out any news from the returning scouts and skirmishers.)

Borygg joins Kugald as they return to where they left their packs. On the way, he'll either retrieve the spear he left behind or pick up another one from the field, making sure to check its condition first.

Once his equipment has been recovered, he'll join the others in looting the dead. Given the band's need of good-quality armour, he'll be especially on the lookout for that, in addition to small, portable valuables. As before, he'll be searching for a good mace to replace his old wooden club.

As they walk back to where the bags were left Algared will stop to relieve any Ibanvaal warriors he passes of valuables and items which will hopefully be of benefit to the band before continuing. Upon reaching the bags, hopefully having found them as they were left, shoulder his gear and with his companions contin ue the process of gathering valuables rings, pendents, broaches, coins and any armour that looks as though it will serve the warband, mail, plate or kurbal spot pieces, 3/4 helms or better and even a gambeson or two. If it appears that they would fit Barak or Borygg.

If he comes across any greviously wounded he will not hesitate to mercifully kill them but only if he is certain they are part of the Ibanvaal force, if he encounters wounded Daas warriors he will stop and give what aid he can if they require it.

Wen finally gathered with his companions at their designated camp he will aid his loot to the pile for sorting, he will remove his armour and carefully wash his wound having it treated before pulling out his bowl and beginning the routine of casting "Azure hand" he will bath his forearm then his old head wound, and then treat each of the wounds of his companions, resting as as usual when required. Once he has treated his companions he will also treat any Fellow Daas, ensuring their wounds have been treated normally first before casting. Algared will continue doing so until either he is too exhausted to continue or there are no more wounded seeking aid.

With the warband reunited you begin to tell each other of your part in the battle (if you need such details message me privately I can fill in the details for you) Jurri leads you to where the fighting was heaviest and there you are able along with just about everyone else to loot several bodies apiece before you are beginning to run into previously 'liberated' bodies.

Your haul is quite extensive (and is posted in the Meadhall section) and you will not be able to carry away the haul to go and get your other equipment.

As the warband sit dividing the spoils of war, Algared will remove his arour setting it with his bag before cleaning his forearm wound and preparing. Once the allocation of armour and division of spoils has been made. Algared will begin what seems to be becoming a post battle ritual for the band as he begins to endeavour to seek to aid recovery of their wounds via esoteric means.

Jurri will go recover any equipment he is made aware of, so others don't have to leave their loot unprotected. He can compose verse just as well walking as sitting. Alternately, he can watch over loot until they return.

Thanks jurri for watching the haul and adds that they should gather the equipment whille Jurri and possibly another watches the haul. Algared imagines two will have less trouble than one. Though he cannot think of any from among the Daas who would harm a their skald, still it seems wiser to be safe than sorry.

With the warband now reunited they retrieve their equipment left on the first slope and return to find Jurri sitting near their loot tapping lightly upon his drum.

Your group now begin to split the items in various groupings and then the discussion about who will get what begins.

After some debate/discussion you each settle upon the items you wish to take from the pool.

Meanwhile other men are moving around the battlefield gathering the dead to prepare them for their final journey. Along the with bodies there is also a collection of refuse from the battle, broken weapons, shields and armour are placed into a pile while those items that might still be servicable are collected and placed into another pile.

Algared has gone to collect some water from the creek to the left of the battlefield, while he is gone Barak take this time to begin to treat Kugald's wounded shoulder. Kugald then sets to treating his own leg. Kugald then turns his attentions to the other wounded members of the warband treating each of their wounds in turn. When Alagred returns he takes out his now familiar bowl. Kugald then treats Algared's wounds. Then resting for a while Algared attempts to treat his wound first but after the routine the wound still hurts and does not appear to have healed at all. Turning then to Vidar he removes any clothing and other items that will obstruct his view of the wound and begins to go through the routine of his 'magiks'.

Vidar feels the soothing water begin to chill against his thigh. Within moments the redness around the wound appears to disappear along with the pain leaving a small scar. Barak is the next to be treated by Algared, apart from wiping the dried blood from the wound there does not seem to be any change. Kugald is next to be 'treated' by Algared as both his wounds are washed with chilled water. The wound to his leg looses the painful sensations and appears to heal up completely as though it were never there.

With the warbands wounds treated Algared lays with his back to the ground in exhaustion. Meanwhile Kugald gathers the battlesword and heads off to find some replacement spears to exchange for the sword. Nearing a group of warriors they are gathered around a pile of what looks like over a hundred spears. Asking what is to happen to them and if they are available for use Kugald is told to "Help himself, he can have as many as he can carry" the last part is said with a laugh from the group.

Kugald returns to the warband with new spears.

About a watch after the fight Thaldirs finds out Vidar and informs him that the dead are ready for him to offer his words of passing to the fallen. The rest of the warband follow to pay their respects to fallen kin and comrades. Algared along with the rest of the warband pry their weary bodies up off the ground to take part in the proceedings.

After the loot has been allocated, but before waiting a watch for the dead to be recovered, Barak will look round the enemy dead for anyone wearing a undamaged tunic which is not covered in blood. If he finds one he'll take the tunic to wear under his mail.

He'll then swap tunics (his one goes in to his knapsack) and puts on the chainmail bynie. He'll try on the mail cowl under his 3/4 helm, but then puts the cowl in to his knapsack until he nexts prepares for battle.

Conersationally he'll say "I found the enemy camp - it looks like they have been here for a couple of days waiting for us. Strangely though it is obvious where they camped they left nothing behind but ashes and shit. Someone must have collected all their baggage, sleeping rolls, and cooking gear and taken them away, including the stuff being used by those we killed. I think that is strange - why did they not just abandon it?"

Maybe we face a MUCH larger host? And that could mean that this was just a smaller group left behind to destroy us if they could, or slow us down at worst. Could also explain why this group was so eager to flee. Did you see any signs of a larger host moving away from the camp?

Gathered around the dead, Vidar leads the warband in bidding the eight dead farewell and ensures their journey to Talagaard is swift. Cunate stands among the group, surrounded by his huscarls. Thorin can be seen standing near him. The huscarls appear to have had a hard fight just about all of them bear the marks of combat, bandages adorn some of their extremities, links in the chainmail are broken, helmets are dented and their shields are not the ones they began their march with.

After the memorial service the conversation continues as stories of their deeds are told to honour their memories.

As the crowd begins to disperse a runner from the north arrives causing a little alarm intially but it is soon gone when it is realised that it is one of Kelsi's men returned.

His conversation with Cunate can just be overheard as the warband is almost silent as they strain to listen. "Froyby is empty" the scout reports.

With the dead now seen to, Cunate orders that camp be broken as he looks around. "Thaldirs you and I will take one hundred warriors and secure the thran with all haste. The rest of our warband can bring the wounded and make their best speed to the thran" with a smile he adds "this is good fortune!"

Thaldirs begins to scan the awaiting crowd picking out warriors. Pointing to Jurri "Jurri, come join us and see first hand how the Daas captured Froyby from the Ibanvaal" then pointing to Vidar "Vidar you too should come, you can offer solace to anyone that might be in hiding that we arrive with no intention of enslaving anyone" then he points to Kugald, Barak, Algared, Borygg and says "I know you men can fight you will be of use to us should there be a problem"

Soon the Daas stands amid a throng of men around one hundred strong.

Making your way north you head towards Froyby. Kelsi's scout leading the way....

Barak sighs then pulls of his mail, put on his old tunic (put the newly found russet one in his pack), dons the byrnie once more and then the cowl and put his helm back on. He fastens the new shortsword's scabbard to his belt. He is now ready to face battle once more.

"I was thinking, maybe they only used that camp during the day. They could have been quartered in Foyby. Which would explain why that thran is empty - if we've just defeated their guard army. We'll have to be careful though, if they rally they could easily pin down or kill Kelsi's men and then double back on us. Even if only half rally they'd still have something like four warriors to every one of ours."

"Good fortune indeed. Or a trap."

(OOC: Never saw a reply to my previous inquiry. Do we have any estimates on the size of the Ibanvaaler force? Was what we encountered representative of the main force or just a rearguard?)

You have no idea what size force Ibanvaal would be able to muster. Figures range from 6,000 - 18,000 warriors. As for whether or not this is a rear guard. No one but your side knew of the exsistance of the pass through the mountains so it would be a reasonable assumption that this is a rear guard. You had news just before you left Ygesdram that Ibanvaal had started it's march north towards Froyaheim

Borygg gets his gear on, saying to Barak "I guess we'll be trying out our new armour sooner than we thought."

He puts the byrnie on over his padded tunic and leather vest. His old beat-up kurbul half-helm goes in his pack as he puts on the cloth cap and new kurbul half-helm. He gives his weapons a quick once-over, stashes the club in his knapsack on his back, slings the new shortbow and quiver over his shoulder, and picks up his spear and shield.

By midday you start the trip heading north along the road. The sun is high in the sky partly hidden by thickening white clouds, the wind continues from the north west while the temperature remains cool.

Following the road you walk alongside fields, meadows and pastures that are various stages of planting. Along the way you find the occassional enemy body left where he fell during the rout. Some lay by themselves, while others lie in groups ranging from two to three up a group of eight men. Not far from the battlefield the road follows along the bank of the Froya River, the warbans stops long enough for everyone to refill their waterskins and drink from the river.

The Daas keen to make the thran of Froyby pushes you on.

About a kilometre from the thran you gain your first view of Froyby. As you crest a small rise you can see perched on a large hill the unmistakable image of a thranhold. From this distance thran appears to be deserted, but the Daas still wary bids you slow your pace and be on the lookout for any signs of trouble.

The scout leading your band scans the surrounding area for signs of the other scouts. Nearing the thranhold you are greeted by several of Kelsi's scouts, they confirm that the thran is indeed empty and it looks as if everyone has packed up and left. The only signs of habitation are the beds and other sleeping gear of nearly a thousand warriors that has been left behind.

Kugald looks over at Barak and Borygg. "As soon as the thranhold is secure, I think you boys need to go on an 'investigative' mission," he winks at the two men. "You seem to be the most talented at that sort of thing. Another goose dinner would be nice, but any hastily stashed valuables would be nice too."

He looks over at Algared who seems almost dead on his feet. "Little cuz, we have to find you somewhere to sleep." As soon as they are dismissed, Kugald and the others check out the thranhold for the best sleeping quarters. A clanhouse with some sleeping platforms, bedding and a firepit would be nice.

You are able to find a suitable empty clanhouse, the fire long since gone out and make yourselves comfortable. A quick look around you notice that the clanhouse has been emptied of anything of real value. Pots, tapestries, tables, benches and the like furnish the hall but any portable valuables have been removed. With little effort you get the fire going and are soon resting nearby.

Judging by the furnishings the owner of this particular clanhouse was owned by a reasonable well off family, the furnishing are of good quality and the hall is quite large.
