Those spares were obtained prior to sailing from the shipwrights in Ygesdram. The 1/2 tun you currently have aboard are surplus.

[OoC: Good we don't need more spares. We don't need to spend more cash: better still. Let's move on.]

"Good man" Barak says to the dock-worker "We may need to order an anchor from you in the future, but it sounds like we need to decide on what we want first. While we mull this one over can you help us by giving us directions around this fair town? I need to find a money changer, can you recommend an honest one to me? My friends also need some new clothes. Do you know where we may obtain some at a fair price?"

[GM]

The shipwright eyes you off as you mention an honest money lender. he glances over your shoulder and says "Looks like the market is ending for the day" scratching his beard again he says "a few buildings that way" as he points towards the south "just beyond the sailmaker!" he waits a moment then says "If there is nothing else I will get back to work"

[Barak Daas]

To the shipwright "Thank you for your help. I am sure we'll be back when we know what we want and have local coin to spend. Good day to you sir."

"Do we need anything from the Market?" Barak asks of Algarad "I could do with some wax and a new strike-flint, but I am not despirate for them. If not, I suggest we head past the sailmaker to the money changer."

[Barak Daas]

As no one indicates a firm requirement to go to the Market, Barak says "Right, let us get to the money-changer then. I suggest that the tailor is next, followed by the weaponcrafter if we can find one. You can end up in the sauna for the evening, though I will avoid such a demonic place myself."

[Algared]

"Aye Barak lets go before the merchants are closed, we were tasked to return by the 20th and we have not even arrived at our destination yet, unless the King is currently in Vulenheim."

[GM]

Time: Mid 4th watch

You leave the shipwright to return to his work as you head off in the direction he indicated. The sailmaker is easily seen and you pass by heading towards the money lenders.

The first building behind the sailmakers you see stonework carved with the runes indicating a money lenders place of business.

[Barak Daas]

[OoC: I presume that despite not being able to read, Barak can recognise the runes, if not Algared and Juri will]

The party will politely enter the money lenders office (or whatever): "Good day to you sir. I hope we find you still open for business, for we are in need of some coin."

After the usual pleasantries have been exchanged Barak will offer his agate gemstone for evaluation. I presume Algared will do likewise with the parchment. What are we offered?

[OOC] Which note are you offering to the money lender.

An older man perhaps in his late forties attends the 'office' when you enter. He does not even take the offered gem from Barak "I do not deal in these" he waves his hand at the offered piece of amber "Asa would have my head if I break Hirdmaand laws"

He takes the offered note from Algared though.

[Algared]

Algared draws out the amber as he fishes for the parchment. As the usurer waves away the amber with his hand, Algared smiles and says, "I understand good master and where this amber not in the same pouch as the parchment It wouldn't have been produced at all. What would you be willing redeem this parchment for?" Algared hands the parchment for over for valuation.

[OOC:the parchment has a face value for 380d]

[Barak Daas]

Barak waits until Algarad and the man have finished haggling over the value of the parchment, then asks: "Can you direct me to someone one who does deal in stones like this?"

[GM]

The older man scratches the side of his face "mmmm" he mutters "this is for Ibanvaal silver" he screws up his face "I will give you 1/2lb of silver for it" he adds.

Turning to Barak he responds "You would be after Pjan, he deals in pretty stones and such, make your way back across the market" he says pointing his arm back in that direction "down Penury Way" cocking his wrist to the left "and he is opposite the woodcrafters"

[Algared]

Algared is the one who winces when told the Ususrer tells him that he'll redeem the parchment for just 10 shillings, less than 30% of the face value. He runs his hand through his hair and tries to haggle up the price, but accpets the best best offer he is able to aquire.

Post by GM Actually it is just over 40% the face value of the note. This is the best price you are able to get after some haggling. A 1/2lb of silver is worth 160d

[Barak Daas]

Barak thanks the money-lender for the directions and hurries off to find him and offer up the stone to the trader in jewels for evaluation: "I've been told that it is worth more than six pounds weight in silver." he adds.

[Algared]

Algared thakes the offered 1/2 ib ingot of silver and slipping it away out of sight. Thanking the usurer for his time and patience Algared then leads his friends outside, "if we hurry we may catch up with Barak I dont like the idea of our band wandering alone, or shall we head to the clothier first Kugald?"

[GM]

Barak leaves the warband behind with the money lender. He darts between two buildings and is quickly lost from sight.

The money lender leaves you with the note while he retires to the backroom of his office. The sounds of conversations can be heard from within but the voices are mutted and the content of the conversation cannot be made out.

It is not long before the man reappears bearing some scales and a 1/2lb ingot of silver. Placing the ingot upon the scales he takes a 1/2lb weight and places it to counterbalance the ingot. The two weights balance and with a nod to himself the merchant hands over the ingot to Algared. As Bjarni, Jurri and Kugald wait for the money lender to finalise the deal with Algared, they watch on taken by the transaction as Barak slips off into the crowd.

[Borygg Raal]

The water laps up against the boat, as the group of men depart leaving just Borygg and Zeuol. The latter turns to the former and asks, "With some quiet time and the unlikely event the our meager boat will be set upon by cunning theives, care to share a bit of your history either your lifes tale or just our current company journey? I'd like to hear, both but whatever you feel comfortable speaking about."

Borygg will tell Zeuol a bit of his background (which can be read here: https://menglana.rpg-board.net/borygg-raal-f25/borygg-s-stats-t145.htm#1145), how he came to join the others a short while ago, and a bit of their adventures over the past weeks.

As he knows little of Zeuol's story, Borygg will in turn ask the newcomer about his background and how he came to be involved in all this.

[Algared]

Algared amused that Kugald and Bjarni are so amazed by the exchange of the parchemt that they seem stunned into silence and inactivity, chooses their next location. Knowing Barak was keen to trade a piece of jewellry and given Jurri's advice about wandering off alone, Algared leads his older cousin and Bjarni to the jeweller's in order to follow Barak's steps.

"We rejoion Barak and then we try for whatever else we need." He says to the pair as they walk along.

[Kugald Daas]

"Agreed, let's find Barak, buy what we need and move on." Kugald looks around cautiously. "I have no desire to stay here any longer than necessary."

"Aye - I want to get to Pelyn to see Eryna. You should see her Kugald, beautiful she is."

As the warband cross the market the can Sigrun through the dispersing crowd.

Not far behind Sigrun you see Barak appear from the far end of the merchants market. He spots you and heads directly towards your warband.

[Barak Daas]

"That was a painful experience. Are we going to the Tailors next? Jurri, lead on, you know the way."

[Sigrun Surenaal]

Sigrun will assist with directions, and then head back to the docks.

[GM]

Sigrun offers you directions to the clothiers workshop but Jurri informs her that he knows where it is. Heading back down Penury Way the warband pass several clanhouses before finding the clothiers.

As you enter the workshop you are greeted by a young man about your own age he greets you well "Good evening, travellers, we are near the end of the days business but if you are quick I am we may be of assistance. Now what is it you might be after?"

[Barak Daas]

After exchanging pleasantries, Barak says: "We are interested in buying some clothes, but before that, do you buy clothes? Obviously these are in excellent condition and remarkable quality and materials? But, I am beinmg rude please serve my friends first."
