The crew rest through the night and are awoken early as Nolomar shines from above the mountains to the east. Bjarni is reminded early that he has to enlist the extra crew today, prospective crew members will be gathering the in market place from high Nolomar.

[Bjarni Daasen]

[OoC - Is there any reason why we are not run up on the beach? It would make sense if we can moor closer into shore so we don't have to keep ferrying backwards and forwards. If there is no environmental reason (the type of bottom, the huge jagged rocks along the shore etc etc - then Bjarni will ask the Pilot why we are not hauled up on the strand]

In the morning after they eat, Bjarni will gather the group and the senior men on the boat. "I want the Pilot Beregaar, Barak, Algared and Bryn to come with me the market to sign on new crew. Those who remain make sure the crew have everything they need and that there is nothing adrift in this boat. Borygg and Svardkell - if there is anything this ship needs find it ashore and put it on Cunate's tab. Once we have a full crew we are to wait until Cunate gives us our orders. In Ygesdram he said he would be joining us here shortly. We need to be ready to shove off at any time."

Post by GM The reason the boat is not pulled up ashore is that the beach is too small and other vessels have been beached already. This thran is not as big as Ygesdram and it is currently serving as the main trading port for Daaslund, as well as tending its fishing fleet

The morning routine is somewhat confusing to the newcomers as they reacquaint themselves with the routines aboard the boat. The morning air is calm and the fog is thin but the crew can feel the heat building as Nolomar rises into the eastern sky. But with the morning meal consumed and a small watch set the small boat is launched and Bjarni and his staff make for shore.

No sooner have you tied off the boat when Bjarni is met by a man you know from Cunate's household. He greets you all warmly, stating that your arrival has saved him a trip out the 'Kestrel' before he asks Bjarni to follow him as Cunate wishes to see him immediately.

[Bjarni Daasen]

"The recruiting will have to wait. If they want a berth they will still be there after we see Cunate. Let's go."

[GM]

You are lead towards one of the clanhouses behind the pallisaded wall. Several huscarls stand guard by the door as Bjarni is allowed to enter, the rest are not permitted to enter the clanhouse.

[Bjarni Daasen]

Bjarni will follow the guide in. He will shrug his shoulders to the others as he is not sure why Bryn and Barak would be excluded.

[GM]

After a short wait Bjarni rejoins the warband...

With about half a watch until high Nolomar, you approach the small market square to find some score and half men standing about. It seems word has got around that the Kestrel wants a few crewman.

Quickly starting your interviews you are able to weed out those with little or no time at sea, as you search for crew, more men begin to appear soon there are nearly sixty men standing about seeking board upon your boat.

By late afternoon you have weeded the group down to a possible dozen...

[Bjarni Daasen]

Bjarni will turn to Bryn and Barak. "So we have twelve men and six oar benches to fill. How about we get Bryn to test them with a sword and pick the best six fighters."

[Barak Daas]

"I too can test them, that would half the time. Are we planning on fighting then? You had better make it a rule, that if anyone kills Bryn, they don't get a place on the boat. That, or find some wooden swords quick. Many seamen will be more handy with a axe, or knife though."

[GM]

Barak and Bryn ready themselves to test out the combat skills of the newcomers, meanwhile they too go about preparing themselves. All have gear stored nearby including spear and shield (they are prepared to test out with axe, sword and dagger too if that is what you are searching for).

Late in the afternoon after a few scratches and bruises you have found your six new crewman. With the newcomers in tow you make your way back aboard the Kestrel.

"Right lads, get a good night's sleep. We shove off on the morning tide. I will tell you where we are going when we are at sea"

[Svardkell Holg]

Svardkell and Borygg will go about acquiring the remaining supplies needed for the trip. I assume that Borygg will do all of the talking and mercantyling and Svardkell will carry things, and look menacing if need be.

The initial check aboard has revealed that the boat is set for spare parts, carrying spare sail, a good supply of tools, spare timbers, ropes and other items used to repair any damage the vessel might sustain. Food stocks have already been outlined.

What sort of supplies are you in need of?

A few sheaves of arrows and spare spears would not go amiss.

What about some extra shields?

Algared reminds you that if the ship intends to put to sea, there are only a few days worth of food aboard the boat. Borygg heads into town with the list of supplies. With what remains of the boats coin, Borygg is able to obtain a half dozen spears, ten full quivers of arrows, a half dozen shields and a further 4 days rations per man aboard.

Dark clouds begin to gather towards the end of the third watch and into the fourth. Given the hot day and the building clouds it looks as if a storm is brewing. With the recruiting done and the supplies purchased the warband and crew return to the 'Kestrel' and make preparations to sail early on the morrow. During the fifth watch the first rain drops begin to fall.

The crew had already erected the canvas shelter to protect the crew from the inclimate weather. Not long after the rain has begun to fall the first boom of thunder and crack of lightening are heard.

During the storm the crew, armed with long poles set their watch to protect the boat from and flotsam that may drift down either river that might hit and damage the vessel. Crews on nearby vessels are doing the same, but little is seen and nothing approaches the 'Kestrel' to threaten her hull.

The storm builds up during the fifth watch, despite the protected waters in which the boats rests the sea begins to churn wrestling the boat about. Despite the rain and the conditions the temperature remains relatively warm.

By the end of the fifth watch the storm has abated and the sea has calmed, the night remains warm and a thin fog begins to build over the water spreading towards the shore.

The fog continues to build during the night....
