[GM]

Time: Beginning 1st watch - End 2nd watch

The members of the warband are awoken some by family members others by servants or workers. Each wake in turn and pack up their belongings from the nights rest and begin to go about their morning routine.

The weather is clear with some cloud to the east obscuring the Nolomar from view, instead rays of light find their way through the cloud and streak towards the heavens. The day is still cool but promises to improve as Nolomar rises. The wind blows slightly from the north east keeping the surrounding cool. The ground is still unsteady underfoot but with Nolomar at work should dry quickly. All in all it looks to be a good day.

Already the locals are going about their business in an effort to make up for lost time over the last few days.

Once each of you are dressed, have made yourselves presentable and completed your morning routines, you are able to find time to sit and enjoy the morning meal. The meal is tasty and filling. The warband gather at the meadhall late in the 2nd watch.

[Meldun Jarlaka]

Meldun wakes in the wee hours of the morning, eager to visit the Orbaason's again, and to pray in the temple. He quickly don's his garments, and wakes his friends. Once he see's Nolomar rising in the East, he will quickly put on his armor and thump Bjorn with the handle of his axe, "Wake man! Today we get proper training! I will return in a quarter watch."

Forgoing food till he completes his morning rituals, he braves the hill back up to the gatehouse, and to the Orbaason clan house. Once there, he knocks a couple of firm knocks, then waits.

[Barak Daas]

Barak gets up, has breakfast, has a discussion with Jabor and goes off to sharpen his axe whilst waiting to see if any of his companions arrive.

[Algared]

Algared rises and and packs away his gear. He will go study the ways of the Shek P'var as is is custom before breaking his fast. Returning from his studies he dresses in his finest, and eats the morning meal.

Once the meal is eaten Algared will make a lonely walk up to the thranhold, he wishes to speak to the Daas about his concerns regarding his father's trade practices which seem to be causing hardship and ill feeling amonngst the Daas own people and between those of the Storzar as well. Algared feels the weight of duty heavily upon his shoulders, his loyalty to his valhaker and to his family leave him troubled. His father has always seemed to be blinded by the lure of coin and power and has run foul of the law overstepping his position. In peace time it is bad enough but in this time of war when the Daas are besieged it seems to algared that his father's practices bode ill for the entire clan. At a time when unity is required his practices could be sowing the very seeds for rebellion.

The problem as Algared understands it is two fold. His father controls and owns the main bonding house and with storage space at a premium prices would rise, but the additional fees his father adds leave many struggling to survive. The second problem is his father has been assuming responiblity for trade in items where the local masters have become incapacitated or killed. Algared has ideas, how to alleviate the trouble. Whether Skorri is hauled before the Daas or merely has his burgeoning trade empire reduced by the Daas allowing other masters to trade, Algared believes his father will not be pleased and it will he upon him his father's anger is most likely to fall.

Post by GM Algared makes his way to arrange to see Cunate Daas, while on his way Algared passes Meldun and Borygg as they head down to the meadhall. Algared finds Madrin Trilsten where after exchanging greetings Madrin asks what brings Algared to the greathall at this time of the morning, Algared outlines his concerns about his father and attempts to arrange a meeting with Cunate. Madrin suggests that the matter be brought up during the next thran Ting. (This is the normal way of dealing with such matters). Madrin confirms to Algared that he will ensure that the matter is noted and addressed during the next Ting in 4 days time.

Content that this is the right way to deal with the matter Algared turns and heads towards the gatehouse as he approaches the gatehouse the alarm bell from above begins to ring. After three or four notes being sounded a guard from above pokes his head from the window and calls to the guards below "Three warboats approaching from the east!!!!" he calls.

[Borygg Raal]

Borygg gets up, washes and dresses, then grabs something to eat from the kitchen. If he sees Meldun in the temple, he'll join him or wait quietly until the priest is finished with his rituals. He'll then accompany him back to the meadhall to meet up with the others.

[Bryndis Serewyn]

Bryndis will rise and dress for the day, donning her customary outfit of leather leggins and quilt tunic. After another weary day of sitting, she's hoping to be able to move around today... perhaps chase after bandits in the woods.

While waiting for others to arrive at the meadhall, she'll talk with Barak in Orbaalese... every little bit helps.

[Barak Daas]

Barak appreciates the chance to practice the few words he has so far gained in orbaalese. He will point round the hall and his equipment to try to learn the words: table, bench, door, dagger, axe, etc.

He discusses the day with Bryndis and agrees that a trip out to the woods could be fun. It all depends on what the weather will be like. He goes over to the door and peers up at the sky and sniff the wind...

[OoC: what does Barak think the day will being in terms of the weather.]

[Bjorn Vetr]

Bjorn eyes each of his companions as they gather during the 2nd watch, listening to the various conversations. Its only been a few days, yet he's surprised at how comfortable he feels around them. Rising to his feet, the large man stretches and yawns, then walks slowly over to the doorway and gazes out at the morning sky.

"Bin quite some time since I've seen weather this nice." He breathes in a deep breath of the cool morning air, and slowly lets it out. "I'd say 'tis a fine day to take a walk in those woods, maybe set a few trap lines an' such."

He spends the next few minutes gathering up the gear he would need spend up to a day or two in the mountains.

[Bjarni Daasen]

Bjarni will break his fast, and then cut firewood for his hosts and do any chores the mistress of the house requires until it is time to go to the training ground.

[Meldun Jarlaka]

Upon finishing his prayers to the Gray Slayer, Meldun will gather Borygg and return to the meadhall and enjoy breakfast with his friends.

"The weather is fine today. Should we get to training early?" Meldun will look to Algared, "Or do we want to report to the Daas about your fathers business dealings?" Continuing to look around the table, he will get a slight smile on his lips. "If there are Dagen's men in the woods, I'm sure I could find it in my heart to help with some hunting or trapping this day, as well"

[GM]

Time: End 2nd watch

Meldun and Borygg have just entered the meadhall to find the others sitting around a table (except Algared who is inside the thranaal arranging a meeting with Cunate Daas).

Meldun and Borygg have just taken their seats when a bell begins to sound, Barak and Borygg immediately recognise it as the alarm bell......

[Bjarni Daasen]

Assuming that Bjarni is still with his comrades having breakfast, he will look around at them. He has no idea what is happening?

[Barak Daas]

"That is the alarm" says Barak "I do not know what for... Arm yourselves!"

Quickly, Barak goes to fetch his bow, spear, shield and helm. If Sigrun is at the meadhall, Barak tells her "You best go to the Farvie and make her ready for sea as best you can." Then herds whoever is left of the band out of the meadhall in the direction of the muster point.

No doubt like everyone else he'll ask other clansmen if they know what is going on.

[Bjarni Daasen]

Bjarni thinks, 'arm myself?' All his gear is at the clanhouse he is staying at [OoC - I have been assuming I have been staying at the clanhouse of the shipwright]. Either way, getting his mail will take too long so first thing is to find out what the ruckus is about. He has his knife and club which will have to do until he can get to his gear.

[Bryndis Serewyn]

Bryndis will grab her gear and follow Barak.

[Algared]

"Three warboats arriving from the east", Algared looks eastward [can Algared see the warboats and how large do they appear] he will look towards the south east to make sure that at present no landward force seems to be arriving. If he does spot anything he will also draw the guards attention to it before he and curses and making his way back down into the thran as quickly as he can. He will head to his home via the meadhall and upon finding Barak tells him to "Gather the band and get armed, three warboats have been spotted coming east along the river. I dont trust the Dagan dog I wouldnt be suprised if he has got a force in the woods, I am going to my father's to get my armour and weapons. Meet me there."

With that Algared will continue onwards towards his home and prepare himself for defence.

Post by GM You quickly turn your head towards the east and peer through the gatehouse, you are unable to see anything much past the thran, let alone warboats or warriors lurking in the woods.

While you search the surrounding countryside the first guard turns to his companion and says "Go warn the Daas" the second guard turns about on his his heels and makes his way towards the greathall at a trot calling "Warboats approaching from the east!" as he goes.

The thranaal immediately springs to life men begin to prepare themselves for battle, women begin to search the thranaal for children and gather them up and move them towards clanhouses.

Heading down the hill towards the meadhall you spy Barak and the others having now made their way outside to see what is happening. Alerting your companions to the danger they all begin to head off and gather together their arms and armour.

[GM]

With Nolomar now cresting the mountains to the east and visible above the clouds to the east, the morning is mild with a slight wind blowing from the north east.

With the warning of warboats approaching the thran begins to gather momentum, as men try to arm themselves while gathering their families together, family belongings are being gathered together and as time ticks by you can see families starting to make their way towards the thranaal seeking the safety of its walls carrying what ever wealth they can. The thran is a hive of activity with men, women and children running about the thran tending their own business.

Jabor instructs his staff to gather their belongings while he starts to prepare to defend himself.

Once Algared has passed on the warning of the approaching warboats he heads to his clanhouse to arm himself.

Byrndis, Bjorn, Meldun and Barak remain at the meadhall and prepare themselves against the approaching warboats.

Where are the rest of you going and what are you doing???

[Barak Daas]

Barak's first instinct was to go for his weapons, and he has no armour to don, so he will use a little time to pick up his hunting/travel gear and make sure his valuables are about his person (which they are unless someone has stolen them). He then goes to Jabor and tells him that if he is not going to join the shieldwall then he is best off taking his staff and himself to safety. He can take what he can easily find and carry but he should leave the rest. However, he should not panic, three warboats is not much of a force and it is unlikely that the Dagen will be planning an attack with such a small force. It will probably just be the Dagen come to celibrate Sarajin's feast and a false alarm.

Barak then joins the rest of the band at the meadhall. "I am heading down towards the market square - someone needs to be there to meet these boats when they arrive. We can meet Algared and the rest outside Skorri's wearhouse." he states before heading off that way.

[OoC: Where is Algared's clanhouse. I presume #11 is the warehouse and that is not where Skorri's family lives.]

[Borygg Raal]

Borygg hurries to the temple and collects his armour and weapons, then heads for the market square to meet up with Barak.

[Sigrun Surenaal]

Sigrun heads for the Farvie. If she can grab any of the other companions to help her get the boat under way, she will.

As soon as she can see any boats, she'll try to identify any markings.

[Bjorn Vetr]

Already equipped for trapping, Bjorn spends a few minutes strapping on the rest of his armor, then retrieves his spear and shield (his axe and bow are already strapped to his back). Glancing at his companions, he nods grimly and turns toward Meldun, ready to follow him into battle as soon as he is ready.

[Meldun Jarlaka]

At the sound of the bell, Meldun's normally happy countenance quickly turns serious. He makes haste to the rest of his gear, strapping on his armor with a well practiced precision. Satisfied that he is as protected as he can, he ensures his valuables are well covered in his chest and that his Fakang is on the outside of his armor, he fastening his spear to his back, he holds his axe in one hand, and his shield in the other. Seeing Bryndis and Bjorn ready, he will signal for them to follow, and lead them out to the market square to join the others.

Once with the others, he will look east up the river, turning his head slightly so that his face is directly into the wind. Closing his eyes, he opens his senses to what is going on, feeling the pulse of the coming battle. Softly, he begins chanting a popular war song.

After a few stanzas, he will open his eyes and look at his gathering companions. To Bryndis and Bjorn, he begins, "Today, we have been blessed the opportunity to show our courage in battle to the Daas. I know in my heart, we will not fail him." Turning to face their new warband, and addressing Algared and Barak, "Sarajin is with us this day. Our spears and shields and axes join with you. Lead us, and we will follow you."

With just a hint of mischief in his violet eyes, Meldun lifts his head to the sky, mentally reading himself.

[Bjarni Daasen]

Once the source of the commotion is discovered, Bjarni will hurry to don his war gear and return to find his comrades. Glancing down to the wharf he sees Sigrun getting the Farvie ready for sea. He runs back to where Algared and the others are gathering.

"Algared. Sigrun is getting the Farvie ready. I think she means to put to sea to make sure that these approaching warboats do not catch her tied up, assuming they are here for battle. We cannot face warboats in her though, they would run right over the top of her gunwhales and force her under. Where do you want me?"

[OoC - in case I have misread it I take it the men are gathering at the market shich faces the only decent landing spot on the river?]

[Bjorn Vetr]

The wind blows past the small warband, bringing with it the smells of the river, stirring the leather and quilt armor worn by the clansmen. Bjorn The Bear stretches out his huge frame, carrying himself with a confidence that his new friends have never seen. As Meldun begins his chant, Bjorn closes his eyes and joins in, humming a deep earthy bass accompanyment.

The large man listens intentently to Meldun's speech, nodding his head in agreement, then lifts his spear and lets out a roar toward the river and the oncomming ships.

[Barak Daas]

To Meldun Barak says "Let us not be too hasty. We do not know if those boats come in peace or not. There may be no battle. Though it is unlikely, from the direction they are coming from, they may even be friends. Perhaps some of the Daas' men have cut out the warboats and they are bringing their booty home. I think there will be a fight, hence my weapons, but we should not be the ones to start it. Until a leader of the Daas orders an attack, or we are attacked, then we will do nothing to start a fight. If a fight does start then I am going to kill everyone in the first boat, so you will have to split the other two boats between you." Barak grins at the last.

[OoC: Barak is indeed going to the Market place opposite the nice inviting beach.]
