"It seems Cousin they heard my comment about them being Dogs' Algared says, trying to sound lighthearted, though he silently cursing the fact that his shield now feels like a lead weight with the light spear firmly embedded within it. Stepping to the side and back allowing Kugald to replace him at the front of the line. "Go now Cousin, or they'll be no line left to hold, I'lll join you as soon as I have a a shield I can use again."

[Kugald Daas]

Kugald steps forward to take Algared's place, while he removes the spear from his shield.

He joins Jurri's fighting song with plenty of enthusiasm. His volume makes up for his lack of singing skill. At the end of the song, he starts to chant, "DAAS, DAAS, DAAS..." He claps his spear on his shield in time to the chanting.

The weaponcrafter looks down the line to Sheld. He motions his spear towards the enemy.

OOC: To Neil, does Sheld look like he will follow Kugald's lead and advance towards the enemy? If so, Kugald will call for the shield wall to advance. If Sheld does not want to advance, Kugald will hold his position.

The shieldwall seem to take courage out of your song, they too quickly take up the chorus and join in. Only one or two of the younger sailors still seem fearful. They join in with the chant "DAAS, DAAS, DAAS!"

With Sheld and Kugald leading the shieldwall begins to advance on the opposing enemy warriors slowly.

Neirin lets fly with another arrow, the arrow flies straight and true catching a warrior (E4) in the face, he collapses to the ground.

The enemy arrows sail towards you, raising your shields to protect yourselves the first arrow pierces Sheld's shield and catches him in the left upper arm, with a grimace he fights back the pain, the second arrow bounces harmlessly off Kugald's shield and the third arrow strikes the ground about 10' behind the shieldwall not to far from where Hovik is treating the wounded sailor.

The enemy line once again hefts throwing spears into their hands and hurl them at your shieldwall. The first spear lands short of Sheld, the second spear is long and flies well clear of the shieldwall and Hovik before crashing into the ground and shattering, the thrid spear finds a target and pierces straight through a sailors (S4)shield, he discards the now useless item and draws a dagger in it's place, the fourth, fifth and sixth spears all fall short of the shieldwall, one in front of Jugaan and one in front of Thorin while the last is wild and lands near no one. The seventh spear flies over the heads of the shieldwall and comes to land point first into the ground not more than a foot from Hoviks left leg, the last spear strikes squarely into the shield of a sailor (S1) he too discards his shield but does not draw a further weapon.

As soon as the spears have left the hands of the enemy warriors there is a pause of a few seconds before they scream "IBANVAAAAAAL!" and begin to charge your shieldwall....

With only 20' or so seperating the opposing lines Sheld and Kugald lead your own shieldwall in their own charge.

Neirin looses another arrow towards the charging warriors but fails to hit his mark. Neirin must now try to reposition himself to avoid striking his own warband.

With a crash the opposing lines come together.

As the opposing lines come together E1 shield charges his opponent P2 knocking him to the ground, but his companion Pergan Daas (FM) prevents any further harm coming to this sailor as he now stands over his prostrate body.

E2 attempts to slam Jurgaan but both men remain on their feet.

E5 attempts to slam into S1 the burly sailor easily defends against this strike knocking his opponent cleanly from his feet, the follow up attack however is not as successful as the enemy warrior rolls clear of the attack.

E6 attempts to charge into S4, this sailor without his shield to absorb the strike is knocked firmly from his feet and before his companion can intervene in this struggle E6 lands an axe blow to the sailors stomach their is a quick look of pain on the sailors face before his life ends.

E7 attempts to charge into Jurri, both men clash shields and both remain on their feet.

E8 attempts to shield slam Thorin, the young warrior easily defeats this charge knocking his opponent from his feet, the follow up attack is successful as he slashes his broadsword across his attackers belly leaving him lifeless at Thorin's feet.

E9 attempts to charge into Kugald with his shield but Kugald absorbs this attack and both men remain on their feet.

[Kugald Daas]

Kugald absorbs his attacker's (E9) blow, putting the full weight of his left shoulder behind his shield.

He keeps his spear low and his body well protected behind his round shield. He thrusts his spear towards the leading (left) leg of his opponent (called shot). His intent is to try and slice his Achilles tendon and cripple him.

Algared searches around for a shield not finding one that is handy the nearest lies with the body of the enemy warrior E8.

[Jurri Grebel]

Jurri will attack his foe (E7) with his spear, trying to find an opening, hoping Madrin is watching the gap to his left.

His general tactics will be aimed at keeping his foe engaged so Thorin, Kugald, and the others can begin "rolling up" as planned. However, if he gets an opportunity, he'll certainly try to exploit it. Throughout, he will be hurling insults at his foe, trying to goad him into a foolish move.

[Algared]

Algared curses as he is unable to quickly repair his shield, and seeing the nearest shield belongs to a dead enemy he chooses to move to the body of a fallen comrade (S2) seeking to take his sheild. He says a quick prayer to Sarajin for the dead man.

[Guest]

Neirin, low on arrows, grabs a handful from Kugald's quiver and backs out of the line, maneuvering to the right in an attempt to get a clear line of sight to the warrior at the end of the enemy line, as instructed by Kugald. Realizing that Thorin's opponent is down and Kugald will be able to handle his own opponent, the hunter turns his sights to the enemy archers, hoping to neutralize the distant threat.

Thorin does as he is told, waiting for the opportunity to roll up the flank.

[GM]

Amid the sounds of battle, the screams of the wounded, the crashes of weapons on shields, the clash of shield against shield and weapon against weapon the next round of battle begins...

Sailor P3 steps forward offer his assistance to P1 who has a wound to his leg. P3 swings at E1 with his scramasax (cross between a hatchet and shortsword) but his efforts are blocked by E1's shield. P2 attacks E1 with his scramasax but the enemy warrior blocks this attack too. The enemy warrior E1 delivers his blow to P2 but the wily sailor dodges this attack.

Jurgaan strikes a blow at his attacker E2 but his swing goes wild. E2 swings his handaxe back at Jurgaans and catches the journeyman pilot in the left thigh the young man stubbles slightly but remains upright a wound to his leg obvious from the torn leggings. Sheld strikes back to aid his pupil. His broadsword sweeps across the enemy warriors face opening a wound aabout 4" long across his nose the warrior yells in pain he struggles to remain concious and steps back several steps in shock from Shelds blow.

The First mate steps back from the line the broken shaft of an arrow protruding from his stomach still visible through his leather vest.

The Bosun and Master shipwright both burst through the hole in the enemy line and move around the flanks of the enemy line now behind E2 and E5 ready to cut off their retreat.

S1 attacks the enemy warrior E5 the blow is blocked by the enemy warriors shield. E5 in return swings wildly and misses the sailor.

E6 then launches his attack against sailor S1. The poor sailor is unable to hold off this second attack and his attempts to dodge are unsuccessful as the enemy warriors sword falls upon his left hand, the wound looks deep and the sailor screams in agony.

S3 steps forward into the line over his companion, he loose his footing and stumbles but his opponent is unable to capitlise on his misfortune and fails to land a blow.

E7 steps forward swinging his sword against Jurri, the young skald is upto the task taking the blow squarely upon his shield, the weapon however, bites into the shield deeply leaving the shield worse for wear but still useable. Jurri holds his attack while his companions deal with their foe.

Kugald leans forward in an attempt to strike E9's left leg, the attack is foiled by the enemy's shield, E9 then launches his attack towards Kugald. The weaponcrafter is easily able to block the attack and in return seize upon an opening and thrust his spear towards his attacker the spear bits deeply through the enemy warriors left calf, blood gushes forth from the wound as the warrior collapses to the ground , this shift in his weight allows the spear to bite further into his leg all but severing the limb just below the knee.

Thorin watching Kugalds attacker fall to the ground turns his attention to the enemy warrior E7 but his attack is foiled by the enemy warriors shield.

Neirin moving to the right can now see the other three warriors now emerging from the treeline with shields and melee weapons brandished. The hunter nocks another arrow and arcs it towards the advancing warriors. The arrow falls short missing it's target.

Alagrad now heft his shield upon his right arm and begins to move forward towards the battleline.

Hovik has now applied a quick pressure bandage to the sailors shoulder as he looks anxiously over his shoulder towards the fighting. "I should get in and help!" he says to Hovik as he tries to gain his feet...

Maintain the line of defense, and try to interpose between the attackers and Kugald.
Parry for Kugald if possible, drawing his attacks.

[Algared]

Algared seeing the sailor Hovik has finished bandaging trying to rise to his feet as he gropes for a weapon calls out in a commanding voice to the sailor and hopes he sounds as authouritative as Cunate.
'You there! Assist our healer and protect him as he tends to others." Algared hopes he pulls off the command keeping the wounded man from combat, whilst also ensuring Hovik has someone watching his back so that he can concentrate upon the task of tending the wounded. Turning to the front, Algared then moves forward to support the centre and Sheld.

[Kugald Daas]

As his opponent (E9) falls, Kugald strikes without mercy, aiming for the throat. He doesn't want to leave an injured man to strike him from behind.

From the corner of his eye, he sees Neirin moving wide to get a clear view of the men emerging from the treeline. He smiles, smart move.

When he has dispatched the enemy at his feet, he takes a moment to look around and assess the situation. He sees the enemy in front of Jurri. "THORIN, WE WHEEL LEFT. ROLL UP THE LINE." As Thorin and Kugald move in on their nearest opponent (E7) he calls out to Algared and he runs up to join them, "COVER MY RIGHT FLANK AND WATCH THOSE THREE RUNNING FROM THE TREE LINE."

Hearing Kugald call out Algared changes direction and runs to place himself in a position to guard Kugald's flank as he moves he considers picking up one of the throwing spears that had fallen short, "ishould return it to sender" he thinks but decides to hasten into position.

[GM]

Kugald strikes the defencless warriors throat, his spear easily cuts through flesh and muscle dispatching his opponent.

The enemy warriors A1-A3 turn tail and head back towards the treeline. Neirin looses another arrow towards them. The arrow strikes true taking the warrior A3 in the back of the head. His body collapses to the ground without taking a further step.

The remaining enemy warriors seeing their companions flee and their avenue of retreat cut off by the sailors and now the members of the warband starting to roll up their left flank now sense their situation is hopeless and one by one before anyone can land a blow they drop their weapons and plead for mercy.

The enemy warrior E1 looks unharmed, E2 has a 4" cut across his nose which is bleeding badly, E5 has a wound to his stomach the severity of which is hidden by his gambeson, E6 appears unhurt and E7 has a minor wound to his left thigh which can be seen through the tear in his leggings.

These men stand before you now unarmed and at your mercy....

Jurri, Kugald, Algared, Thorin and Madrin encircle the vanquished enemies.

Once he is sure everything is secure, he screams out at the top of his lungs, "VICTORY FOR THE DAAS! DAAS! DAAS! DAAS..." clapping his spear to his shield in time to the chant.

Kugald and Madrin cover the captives while Algared and Thorin search them for weapons and valuables. "Strip off your armour," he says to the captives.

Sheld comes over to Kugald, while attempting to staunch the flow of blood from his arrow wound. Kugald looks over to him, pleased that his injury is not severe, "Captain, your men fought with courage and skill. Without you," gesturing to the crew, "we would have been dead or captured. I recommend your men tie up the captives, they are more skilled with knots than we. The Daas will want to interrogate the prisoners."

Once the prisoners are secure and loaded aboard the boat under the guard of several sailors, Kugald and the rest of the band quickly gather up the dead. The dead from the ship's crew are carefully wrapped in blankets and loaded aboard the ship. Their belongings are secured in their sea chests for their families. The enemy dead and captives are stripped of weapons, armour and other valuables. "Captain Sheld, I recommend you divide the spoils evenly, with a full share, or even two shares if you deem it appropriate, to the families of your men that were killed, and a share for everyone else. I know your men trust you to be fair and impartial, as do I."

The enemy dead are buried in shallow graves and covered with rocks and driftwood to keep out the animals. Kugald asks Madrin to say a few words to Sarajin to speed their souls to his side.

Between tasks, Kugald checks on the members of the warband. Fortunately, most seem to have escaped injury. "Well done, all of you!" Shaking hands with each in turn, "You all fought bravely!"

Kugald checks on the injured sailors, and shakes the hands of the survivors, making a special point of complimenting the younger sailors he saw with fear in their eyes before the shield walls met. "You did well. You obeyed your captain and trusted in your shield companions. Victory was ours. Your fallen companions fought bravely, they will be welcome at Sarajin's side."

Hovik does what Hovik does best. He first does a triage, identifying the most urgent cases and dealing with them first - regardless of which side they were on. The first time Hovik visits a man he simply stops any bleeding and immobilizes wounded limbs. In some cases he might ask a bystander to "hold this just like this until I get back." After everyone is stabilized he goes through the group again, this time taking the time to fully dress the wounds, set bones, and whatever else is appropriate.

If Kugald should order that any of the wounded enemy be moved before Hovik is satisfied that he is stable, Hovik will calmly interrupt in a matter-of-fact voice. "Leave him there. I'm not done with him."

[Jurri Grebel]

If not otherwise occupied dealing with prisoners or pursuing those who fled, Jurri will assist Hovik as best he can.

[Algared]

As the remaining Ibanvaal warriors drop thier weapons or flee Algared looks over the feild of battle. Victory is theirs it is true, but the cost was great. he can do He joins in the Vicotry chant, knowing this will add courage to those who lie wounded and confirm defeat upon their foes.

He congratulates Neirin on his fine archery, and although he congratulates the others he cannot help feeling he did less than his share. He is none to gentle as he searches the Ibanvaal warriors.

Thorin will maintain the watch for additional attackers, while the others search and loot. He knows he will receive his fair share later.


He whispers a prayer to Sarajin for giving them victory.

[GM]

Sheld, Jurgaan, the Bosun and 2 other sailors join in the chant "DAAS, DAAS, DAAS!" Several others fall to their knees, tears of relief are seen on the face of one young sailor. Several of the wounded that were able to stand now collapse to the ground giving in to their wounds.

Those that are able help out as they can, with the taking of the prisoners and the preparation and burying of the dead.

As you survey the battlefield after the battle, 5 enemy warriors lay on the ground 3 are dead, 1 has a grevious wound to the chest, his blood still spilling onto the grass under his body and another suffers from a minor wound to the top of his head (from an arrow) and a second more serious wound just under the eye, the arrow still protruding from his face.

You own casualties are, Sheld has a minor wound to his left arm, Jurgaan has a minor wound to his left leg, the journeyman shipwright lays on the ground with a minor wound to his left arm and a grevious wound to his chest, the blood still flowing freely from this wound, the first mate has a serious wound to his belly, S1 has a serious wound to his left hand, P1 has a serious wound to his right thigh, P3 has a minor wound to his left foot and P4 has a serious wound to his right shoulder.

As you are searching the bodies and treating the wounded Neirin and Thorin both spot two men advancing from the distant treeline, they both have their arms extended above their heads and appear to be carrying no weapons.

The prisoners and the fallen enemy warriors are searched, you find each is in possession of a dagger, a wollen blanket, a canvas shoulder bag, whetstone and several personal belongings they also each carry a waterskin.

You also find 2 tinderboxs, a total of 34d in Ibanvaal currency, 9 shields (most in good condition), there are 12 throwing spears still good enough to use, 5 scramasax, 3 handaxes, 1 shortbow with 4 arrows in a quiver and 2 broadsword.

The men from the treeline advance at a walking pace towards you....

[Kugald Daas]

Looking through the goods, Kugald notices that they don't seem to have brought any food with them. They must have a camp or cache nearby.

Kugald runs to join Thorin and Neirin. He calls out, "Madrin, I think we are going to need your help. There are negotiations to undertake."

Having stripped and searched the Ibanvaal warriors, Algared also notices the lack of food, either this is a scouting party to a larger force or they have a camp or cache near by.

When the two men emerge through the treeline Algared hefts his shield and spear ready to follow Kugald and join Thorin and Neiran, he stops as Madrin follows Kulgald to "negotiate". The four will be able to deal with these newcomers. Algared still stands at the ready to advance if required knowing he may yet be required to defend the injured.
